Authentic antique piece, carved Toraja Barn Window pair from a noble Tongkonan home. Circa 1920. Original antique condition, there are no repair or touch up, they are in good solid antique condition.

Description

Old Window Barn / Antique Tongkonan ricebarn casement / panel, carved in high relief open-artwork motifs of Pa’Tangke Lumu’ / moss plant in water, symbols of prosperity and inseparable family link. Acacia wood, expensive wood from a noble home. Hand painted old window barn.

The only Toraja antique ricebarn panel in my collection. They are exceedingly rare. Hooks included for wall display.

Wikipedia: Tongkonan is the traditional ancestral house, or rumah adat of the Torajan people, in South Sulawesi Indonesia. Tongkonan have a distinguishing boat-shaped and oversized saddleback roof.  In the original Toraja society, only nobles had the right to build tongkonan. Commoners live in smaller and less decorated homes called banua.
