Fertility Figure / Ancestral male and female Timor Atauro statue. Each Atauro family member typically either own one such ancestral figurine(unmarried) or a pair(married couple) of these effigies, fostering a harmonious connection with their ancestors. The more prominent the family, the greater the number of itara displayed.
During ceremonial use each fertility figure is adorned with attire appropriate to its gender with males wearing loincloths and females donning skirts. These carved images are housed and suspended alongside other sacred artifacts from a revered structure known as the “Ruma Tara,”.
Circa 1955, presenting patina of age and well kept. Damage free. Popularity has seen such figurines to decline in numbers, they are becoming pretty rare. Hurry.
