A vintage Batak comb on stand, extremely well carved openwork motifs of Pakpak Karo(also popular in batik textile pattern), the comb has a natural curve & is made from domestic buffalo horn. Damage free, circa 1960-65. More beautiful in real life.

Batak is a collective term used to identify a number of ethnic groups found in the highlands of North Sumatra Indonesia.
Toba Batak are known traditionally for their weaving, wood carving and especially ornate stone tombs. Their burial and marriage traditions are very rich and complex. The burial tradition includes a ceremony in which the bones of ones ancestors are re interred several years after death.
