A PAIR of gorgeous and gigantic tribal container/bottle from the Nias Tengah Indonesia, carved from gigantic old bamboo trunk. Slight split due to natural aging but otherwise in well taken care condition, no worries. Top covers carved from wood.

Motifs are likely closely related to the perception of the nine levels of Heaven & Death, for in the Nias believe, Lowalangi, Dewa Surga is the highest and at the bottom end is Latura, Dewa Kematian / Death God. Storing jewelry, medicine and document. Circa 1975.
