War Mask / death ceremony mask / skull mask / headhunting mask. Dayak markings on the left sphere indicates the enemy is from another Dayak tribe, likely the Bidayuh / Land Dayak, also a headhunting tribe. Antique Iban piece, circa 1930. Insect free, all original condition, never repaired.
Masks in this region in Borneo are mainly used for harvest festival, fertility rites, soul catching and death ceremonies and spiritual dances.
