Exceedingly rare palang collection, consisting one medium size(55mm) and a giant piece(65mm) Palang / Genital Penis Piercing, one with smooth finishing whereas the other chased in tropical Creeper Vine / Buah Berinjan motif, each carved from Billion / Ironwood. Circa 1960, excellent condition. In many extreme cases, I might say this would and still is the most outstanding body piercing by the Iban people of Borneo.

Description

Penis Piercings / Palang is a piercing made across (horizontally) the surface of the glans. Therefore, it can be made through the urethra or above or below it. The term Palang translates as Crossbar in Iban. Hence, symbolizes the rank and power of that particular man in his community.

The Iban men had been practicing such penis piercings method for many centuries, not only as penis protection during war or body jewelry or Ampallang BUT more importantly to increase sexual pleasure.
