Description

Female Mask / Nias Ono Niha tribe, which literally means ‘descendants of human’. The sculpture were not to be worn but made to make contact with the spirits of ancestors in fertility blessings.

In old Indonesians beliefs, such Indonesian Female Nias mask were homes for the spirits to dwell in. The mask is, therefore, a medium for ancestral spirits to reside in the physical world as it represents the divine beings or energies in a physical form.
