Section for finely carved primitive shields armors from Asia. During the battle, warriors were elaborately decorated including these highly decorated shields armors. These shields armors were used to defend at close range against swords known as Mandau. As well as at longer range the opponents spears and darts shot from blowpipes.

The shields armors offered both physical and spiritual or psychological defense to the bearer.  The monster like faces on the front with protruding teeth  were a depiction of a supernatural creature. Thus, intent was to unnerve and bring misfortune to the opponent while protecting the owner.  The reverse side of shields armors was also decorated with designs. In this case the shield has stylised birds heads.  shields like this were not only used in battle but also in war dance as a symbol of a mans courage.
