$950.00

Exceedingly rare Toba Batak ceremonial pole (locally known as Tunggal Panaluan), carved entirely from Cassia Javanica wood. Carved from three separate pieces of hardwood, by the Toba Batak in Sumatra for their rituals in connection with headhuntings, farmings and initiation for young men in the past. Circa 1965 collection, absolutely beautiful, well kept, I have clean it and it’s in great condition.

tunggal panaluan is a magic staff used by shamans of the Batak people, who live in the highlands of North SumatraIndonesia. Traditionally the tunggal panaluan is made from wood of a specific tree and carved with human figures and embellished with horsehair and cooked human brain, both procured from sacrificial victims.
